How to Find Your Vehicle's Actual Fuel Efficiency
Manufacturer-stated fuel efficiency (the number on the window sticker) is measured under ideal laboratory conditions. Real-world efficiency typically runs 10-20% lower. The most accurate method is tracking it yourself: fill your tank completely, reset your odometer, drive normally until you need fuel again, then divide the miles driven by gallons used. Do this three or four times and average the results—that's your real-world efficiency.
